“Peaceful, comfortable, nice walk into the centre, parking available”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2013

We stayed here for two nights, the first night we got to Fernhead at 10pm but Karen was happy to greet us and left us to it. The beds were very comfy and the linens were crisp and fresh. Plenty of space for clothes and shoes. The bathroom was sufficient, clean and good water pressure. The breakfast was excellent! Fresh berries, prunes, different choices of yogurt, cereals, along with brown/white bread, crossiants, a selection of jams in miniature glasses, marmite, Nutella, along with choice if main breakfast: Salmon&scrambled eggs, eggs any ways u like with baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages. Very well presented and tasted delicious, good portion size too!
Karen was very helpful with directions and knowledge of the area.

“Perfect in every way!”

A lovely last minute find and so pleased we stayed here instead of a hotel in Bournemouth. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. Our room was a family room and had everything child would want including a book case full of books for all ages and games as well. Even though the room was for a family it still had lovely bed linen and soft furnishings and was a delight to stay in. Karen our landlady was the perfect host and the breakfast was enormous so be warned if you are a small eater as you may need to say. Even the dining room where we ate had a lovely homely feel and I would strongly recommend that you try this wonderful guest house as you will not be disappointed. Thank you Karen x

We booked our stay at the last minute to attend our son's graduation ceremony which was held in wimborne.Without doubt this is the best B&B I have ever stayed at, it's like home from home, everywhere was immaculately presented, and spotlessly clean.Don't bother looking for anything else, you won't get better. Many thanks Karen for a wonderful stay.

I found Fernhead on the off chance & wow, I was so impressed. Luxury beds, bathrooms, snacks & teas, and above all an amazing breakfast!! I felt that Karen the hostess sincerely cares for your comfort. So good I went back again 3 weeks later.

“Wonderful b&b; best in Wimborne”

Return visit following a 2 night stay last year and once again Karen has done us proud.

The rooms are spotless and have everything you might need. Powerful shower, twin basins and a bath, if needed.

Breakfast is superb and would put many a top class hotel to shame.

We would thoroughly recommend this and will be booking again in the future.

“Fabulous B&B”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2013

We stayed at Fernhead for one night to attend a friends 50th Birthday party in Wimborne, what a lovely place to stay. The room "Walford" was like a mini suite, spacious, very clean and comfortable as was the very large bed and sofa. The ensuite was enormous with a seperate bath, double shower and two sinks. The breakfast was one of the best we had in a B&B, very generous portions with added toast, croissants, yogurts and fruit. Karen was a wonderful host. We only wished we could have stayed for a few more days, we will definitely return.

I stayed at the Fernhead Guest House for one night, as I had a job interview the following morning. Karen was exceptionally accomodating- despite last minute changes and my late arrival (due to getting lost). I was asked what time I would like breakfast in the morning so that I could eat in plently of time to be at the interview for 8.15 in the morning and Karen even kindly agreed to a late check-out. The B&B was superb, the bed was extremely comfy, everything was spotless, the room was well equipped and the use of the wi-fi was really handy. Everything is geared towards ensuring that your stay is perfect! The breakfast was outstanding and the variety and quality of the food was fab. The only downside was that I couldn't stay longer!! I would highly recommend this B&B.

Fernhead GH is an impecible B&B at unbelievable value for money, we only stayed for one night and I wish it had lasted for longer. The suite was incredible with an enormous heavenly bed and en suite that would compete with the finest hotels in the country (including twin sinks and a double size shower). There was a huge variety at breakfast include fresh fruit, yoghurts, croissants. cereals and the full english (which was amazing quality I must add). All in all a lovely stay and I would clearly highly recommend!

Room Tip: The Walford Room is a simply incredible suite.

“Perfect for a young family”

We have stayed at Karen's guesthouse twice with our two children under five and it is by far the best place we have stayed with them. Fernhead is set up to accommodate families like us and we have been made to feel so comfortable and well-catered for both times. We stayed in Shakespeare room with its bunkbed annexe. The children have been delighted to arrive both times, with shelves full of picture books and cuddly toys to welcome them. The rooms are exceptionally clean and practically arranged with lovely attention to detail - for example this time Karen had left some bath toys out for the children to play with. We were there over Easter and each day a new chocolate treat awaited them.

Karen's breakfasts are exceptional with the full English cooked freshly and to perfection with nothing overcooked. In addition the fresh fruit is always of the best quality: raspberries, strawberries and blueberries one day, a medley of melons the next, plus a fridge full of yogurts. Again, boxes of toys are left to entertain children, giving parents the chance to finish their breakfast in peace once children have finished. Unlike many alleged family friendly guesthouses or hotels, you genuinely feel able to relax as a family.

This time the guesthouse was beautifully decorated with Easter decorations. Warm hot cross buns were served on Good Friday. Karen's personal touches are very special, for example she knew our daughter loved Cheerios but that there were none left in the individual portion selection, so she bought a big box specially.

There is lots to do in the area - the model village in Wimborne is fun and Honeybrook farm is also good for families. We also drove to Moors Valley Park which was great and to Studland Beach which is lovely.

“Perfect weekend away”

Beverly I

Just had a lovely weekend away with my hubby and 2 children. Our room was perfect and it was great that the kids had their own room as we didn't feel on top of each other. Lovely big bathroom and it was great to have a little fridge in the room. Breakfast was something else. There was so much to chose from and the food was really enjoyable and presented so well. They had thought of everything even down to giving my little girl a fairy place setting and cup. All the little finishing touches made it all the more special. We definitely hope to go back in the future for a much longer stay.

Stayed May 2012, travelled with family

“Great accommodation”

We have just returned from a week at the Fernhead staying in the Walford room.  It was a lovely break - the room was amazing, with a 6ft bed and an en-suite to die for. Every eventuality was catered for - even a silent fridge!!!!! The cleanliness was first class, the bed was changed 3 times and the towels daily. There was a very relaxed atmosphere and the hosts Karen and Brian were great. The breakfasts were relaxing with a wide choice on the menu - everything cooked to order and nothing was too much trouble for Karen. We would recommend the Fernhead and we can't wait to revisit. “Excellent B & B In Great Location”

My partner and i stayed for six nights at Fernhead and what an enjoyable time we had. We stayed in the Walford Room in which there was a lovely big bed and a lovely big bathroom which had the choice of bath and separate large shower and two sinks which was great. The breakfast was great and we didn't need to eat again till evening . Karen was an excellent and friendly host who gave us details of great places to eat locally. Would definitely return if we are in the area.

Room Tip: Walford Room - lovely sofa in bay window to sit on.

Excellent B & B”

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely large bedroom with every facility you could wish for with enormous bed & en suite of a very high standard. Immaculately clean, great breakfasts & warm & welcoming hosts. 10 minute walk either by road or along the river into Wimborne which is very convenient.

“Big bed, big bathroom, big breakfast!!”

Arrived at short notice, no problem at all for the proprietor Karen. Stayed in the Walford room; big bright clean and airy....and an en-suite rock-star bathroom. Superb place with great breakfast to start the day. Great location for exploring Dorset, and at night it's only a 5ish min walk to town for restaurants and more pubs than we could count! Definitely coming back.

“Cosy, homely, beautiful house and warm feeling.”

House and room warm and welcoming and the host was a delight! The facilities were modern and all working which made the stay more comforting. Plenty of refreshing supplies in room and views were beautiful from the Allen room. Clean towels daily and breakfast is a cut above, it was delicious and the choice really is yours with a wonderful large pot of tea. Oh and the carpet in the room is a deep pile soft foot calling delight. Every little detail has been cared and thought of and at a completely reasonable price, loved staying.

“Best place to stay in Wimborne and district”

Fernhead is immaculately clean, the rooms are extremely comfortable and everything is provided for a relaxing stay. Nothing is too much trouble for Karen Pearce, whose warm and friendly welcome is exceptional. We have stayed in a number of other establishments in the Wimborne area (some much more expensive) but Fernhead is by far and away the best. Every comfort is provided, the bathrooms are luxurious, the breakfast is delicious and the beds really comfortable. Our return visit was just as enjoyable as our first stay.

"Perfect B&B for all the family"

jaz4 - London, United Kingdom

There was nothing not to like about this B&B, having never stayed in a B&B before we found this one on the internet and what a find, we needed somewhere to accomodate my partner and myself as well as our 3 children aged 4,3 & 1. This was not a problem here, Karen provided us with a travel cot to put beside our bed and the older 2 went into the bunkbed. As for the rest of our room all you can say is "stunning" and for cleanliness I think Karen must of had Brian up all night cleaning it because there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere.
The bathroom was up to the same immaculate standard with a nice bath and seperate shower, even bath toys for the kids.
We went down to breakfast at 9am and we weren't disappointed, Karen had set out a table with anything a child could ask for and more, and as for the full english breakfast "SUPERB".
Summing up the full 2 days we stayed we could not have asked for more, "BRILLIANT HOSTS, BRILLIANT FOOD, AND TWO FABULOUS NIGHTS SLEEP IN A B&B TO DIE FOR".

“High quality room & bathroom, very child-friendly, super hosts; good food.”

Mutsogoro - Hereford

We had the family room, which had a really nice refitted bathroom, with large shower and bath. The main room was pretty and light, and the bed comfy, with big pillows and fresh linen. The small kids room had a bunk bed which suited them, as did the swings, slides and trampoline outside. Karen was a great host, and nothing was too much trouble for her. Great breaksfasts: just make sure you are hungry.

“Great place to stay with children”

bmealinhowlett - Kingston upon Thames, United Kingdom

Having read previous reviews on trip advisor i had very high expectations of this B & B. These were met and more. Karen the owner was very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble, she was friendly and helpful, attentive but not intrusive and a real pleasure to talk to. My children who are of the age(11 & 12) where most adults are regarded as comming form another planet, thought she was fab and great fun. They loved playing in the garden with Karen's grandchildren and dogs. We stayed in the Shakspeare room-lovely fluffy duvets and towels-excellent facilities- childrens bunk beds in seperate area off the main bedroom. Breakfasts set us up for the day. Lovely 10min walk into town along the river. No hesitation in staying here again

“Fantastic, homely, welcoming, bright, modern and spotlessly clean”

Chris26_10 -  Milton Keynes, United Kingdom

From the moment we arrived until the time we left we were made so welcome by our lovely host Karen. Unfortunately we didn't meet Brian as we were only at Fernhead for the night., maybe next time.

My father in law who lives in Bournemouth is now 91 fell and broke his hip and was in Poole Hospital. We live in Milton Keynes and decided to drive down on the Friday afternoon and try and find a good B & B near to Poole and stay overnight so we could also visit him on the Saturday. I found the Fernhead Guest House on the Trip Advisor site and as they say what a find it was.

We didn't arrive until quite late but Karen welcomed us and showed us to our room at the back of the house which had good views out over the fields. The room was spacious, comfortable, modern, spotlessly clean and bright. The bed was enormous and looked so comfortable.

We had a kettle, a good selection of drinks including fruit teas and even bottles of water. There was plenty of wardrobe space and drawers if needed.

The shower was separate just across the hall to our room which we knew before I booked but it didn't cause us any problems and it was only for our use. It was again spacious and spotlessly clean and had high quality shampoos, shower gels for guests use.

On our way to the Fernhead we had driven through what is called "The Square" at Wimborne. Its a lovely little town with lots of amenities and restaurants. Karen gave us the names of quite a few restaurants in "The Square" which she recommended. The Square is only a few minutes walk from the Fernhead which is good because the parking in Wimborne is very limited. Unfortunately all the restaurants were fully booked as it was a Saturday evening so if you are planning to visit and want to eat in the evening I would advise you to book a restaurant table when you book your room. Karen will I am sure give you the names and telephone numbers.

We did manage to find a pub restaurant just outside the village which was called The Olive Branch. Nice atmosphere but food a bit overpriced for what it was even though it was quite good.

We slept wonderfully. It was so peaceful and the bed was as comfortable as it looked.

Now we come to the breakfast. Karen cooks your breakfast whatever time you want it. There was everything you could possibly want. All good quality and fresh fruit, every cereal imaginable and even fresh orange juice. We both had a cooked breakfast which was huge and so delicious. We would go back to Fernhead without any hesitation.

Both my husband and I felt that Karen was attentive when you wanted her and would help if she could with anything you might need but we also felt that she would give us our privacy which she did once we were settled into our lovely room.

Do give Fernhead Guest House a try, you won't be disappointed.

If you are looking for spectacular accommodation and food with a lovely atmosphere in a beautiful location then look no further this is it.

“Excellent Guest house”

Lindah28 -  Newport, United Kingdom

I booked this guest house a week before travelling, and spoke to the owners who were very welcoming. I travelled with my parents, uncle and cousin and we booked the 3 available rooms. All rooms were of a very high standard, large and clean. The breakfast was wonderful and nothing was to much of a problem. I would recommend this Guest House to all my family and friends, who want a warm and friendly atomsphere.

“Absolutely brilliant Guest House!!!!!”

gazza408 -  San Francisco, California

What a find! My wife and I stayed for two nights in the Walford Room (huge bed, en-suite, lovely bay windows). Karen was so friendly, made us feel right at home. Breakfast was out of this world, I have enjoyed many a cooked breakfast but this takes the trophy for quality and volume (needless to say I did not eat much the rest of the day). We will be back here every year when are in the Wimborne area. Thanks Karen for making our short stay so enjoyable!

“Brilliant, Brilliant Guest House”

Billy068 - Gateshead, United Kingdom

Sylvia and I found the place to be in a great location, only 5 mins walk into the centre, plenty of shops and pubs, great people who were very friendly.

The Guest House itself was first class, on arrival the owner Karen was so friendly and welcoming, Karen made us feel at home from the off ........we stayed in The Walford Room, how do I start to describe this room, we have stayed in hotels not up to the same class as The Walford Room, large double bed, great decor, and the en-suit is simply fantastic, I cant put down in words how stylish this was......Simply a Stunning Room and En-Suit...
The Breakfast .........well as Geordies me and Sylvia love our breakfast ......well this one set us up for the day kidding, we did not have to eat till around 5-30-ish after 2 sausages, 2 eggs, bacon, beans, tom's, mushrooms, toast and tea and coffee .......fresh fruit and yogurts..........I can fully recommend the Full English ................

As you can guess, I would recommend The Fernhead Guest House to every-one ......

Lewie_13 - Basingstoke, United Kingdom

My husband and I stayed at the Fernhead Guest House for 1 night and were pleasantly surprised. Karen the owner was very welcoming and friendly. We stayed in the Allen Room at the rear of the premises and found the room bright and very clean, we had the exclusive use of the shower and toilet which was near our room this was also spotless with lots of complimentry goodies. Breakfast was huge served with a big pot of tea. We would definately stay at Karen's again if we are in the area. What a lovely guest house!
